Bookworm: A report from your local library

“She turned to the sunlight
    And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
    "Winter is dead.”
A.A. MilneWhen We Were Very Young

With the warmth of spring finally upon us it seemed a good time to write to you all. The cold of winter kept me couped up and uninspired, but here we are. With the warmer weather and longer days, I thought it would be a good time to write an old friend.

A lot has happened since our last report. The library has undergone a few changes. Along with new staff members and volunteers, we have moved things around a bit. If you haven’t been by in a while it might surprise you!

We have added several new items to our collection including The Poldark series (for those of you watching Masterpiece Theatre) and a slew of books by Kate Morton. Along with those books on the New York Times bestseller list, we have also added some new audio books, DVDs, and television series for your convenience.

The library recently hosted a movie showing with free popcorn. We had such a great time we are thinking of making this a monthly event. We need to hear from you so we know when to schedule the regular programming.

The library has also started a Relay for Life team this year! We are currently looking for new team members and collecting donations for the Relay for Life. It has been a wonderful experience so far and we have thoroughly enjoyed doing something for the community. The library will be manning a booth at this year’s Relay for Life on May 5, in downtown Russellville.

We do have some upcoming events in the near future. On May the 4th (National Star Wars Day) the library will be hosting a Star Wars themed party. We will be viewing Star Wars: Rogue One and enjoying refreshments, trivia, prizes, and more. Cosplayers are welcome and encouraged to attend!

The Russellville Public Library started selling BBQ plates this week to raise money for the summer reading program. Plates will be provided by Pilgrim’s Place (yum!) and the price is $8. Please help support the library and combat the “summer slide” by purchasing a plate.

Thanks so much for reading. I hope your week is warm and bright.
