I work the polls along with three others and we have our rules, as with any job. We don’t make the rules. We just follow them.
The “all-time biggest complaint” is having to specify whether you are a Democrat or a Republican. I would prefer that question need not apply but unfortunately it does. It would be a more pleasant day for us if we weren’t required to ask because the response is not always the one we enjoy hearing.
When we are told it isn’t any of our business, we tend to feel the same way as you do. Until the rule changes, the question of mood-altering will continue to be asked. If it helps ease the discomfort, just know that poll workers abide by the same rules. I’d like to remind each of you that there will be a runoff election on Tuesday, March 31st so you might want to mark it down on your calendar.
There runoff will be for county revenue commissioner between Stratt Byars and Veronica Stancil. There will also be a runoff election for U.S. senator between Jeff Sessions and Tommy Tuberville.
Please remember if you voted Republican in the previous race, you can only vote in this upcoming Republican runoff. There will be little to no need to convince us otherwise because the little green machine you sign, called the Poll Pad, knows how you voted.
I’d suggest to the voters who complained you were signing your life away by signing twice to prepare for that again. Thank goodness it’s only twice and not three times. Whew!
Again, we don’t make the rules but we do abide by them by being sworn in.
We have the utmost respect for each of you who exercise your right to vote. Some of you will say it’s not worth the trouble of getting out to vote for only two people. Considering the importance of these offices, it is very likely to be. Important enough to take the time to vote.
