At the Russellville School Board meeting last Thursday afternoon, the RCS Board members approved the retirement of Susan Hall, Curriculum Coordinator. Her retirement will be effective May 1st.
RCS Superintendent Rex Mayfield, who also is retiring this year, has known Hall for much of his life. They went to school together, and since his 39 years in the RCS system, he has worked with Hall.
“We appreciate everything Susan has done for the school system,” said Mayfield. “If I needed help spelling something or needed someone to read over what I wrote, I would just ask her. This is just a small thing compared to what all we ask her to do.”
Other items discussed at the meeting included:
- The February 2015 invoices totaled $386,231 that included the purchases of equipment for nursing classes and agriscience classes at Russellville High School, iPad Minis and iPad Air, new heating/cooling units for West Elementary School and RHS Auditorium lobby, and an internet filtering system.
- February 2015 payroll was $1,582,724.
- The Child Nutrition Program accepted bids for a walk-in freezer with shelving and dunnage racks and a 5’ x 10’ concrete pad poured for condensing units. The freezer is located by the RCS Transportation Department and shared by all four schools. The bids began on March 9th. Three companies submitted bids: Dixie Store Fixtures (lowest bid) for $53,000, BRESCO for $54,960, and Dykes Restaurant Supplies for $58,591.90.
- The board approved the Private Contract Service Agreement between the University of North Alabama and Russellville Middle School for facility usage for AMSTI-UNA 2015 Summer Institute Training to be held on June 2-5 and 8-11.
- Alissa Moore, RHS Guidance Counselor had her ten month contract extended to a twelve month contract effective June 1st.
- Nathan Jones, Fabiola Ruiz and Megan Gaston were approved as substitutes.
