Brandenburg Ready to Pursue Dreams

Since she was young, Casey Brandenburg knew she wanted to become a physical therapist.

Because of her hard work and determination at Russellville High School, Brandenburg will attend the University of Alabama this fall while pursuing her dream career.

“When I was 11 or 12, my grandpa had both his knees replaced,” said Brandenburg.  “I went with him to his physical therapy appointments.  As I watched and helped them, I knew that is what I wanted to do.  I was able to later job shadow at Encore Rehabilitation with Junior Leadership.”

After majoring in Athletic Training at UA, Brandenburg wants to attend the University of Alabama in Birmingham and pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

She has been awarded numerous scholarships to help her pursue her dreams.  These include the Presidential Academic Excellence Award, “There’s a Way” Scholarship and a full tuition scholarship to Alabama.

While at RHS, Brandenburg has participated in many organizations and sports.  She was a member of the Marching One Hundred Color Guard for four years, and served as Captain for two years.  She played varsity Softball for four years.  She has participated in Envirothon for four years, serving as Team Captain for four years.  She was also the President of the Environmental Science Club for three years.  She was also a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Student Council.

“My favorite thing about my years at RHS is being able to be a part of so much at the school,” said Brandenburg.  “I am going to miss the football games and softball.  I enjoyed getting to know everyone here.”

Brandenburg, who attends St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, explained that much of her success she owes to her family.

“My parents have always wanted my sister and me to be able to be the best we can be,” said Brandenburg.

Her parents are William and Angela Brandenburg, and she has a sister named Kelsey Aycock.  Her grandparents are Kenneth and Betty Pierce.

In the years she has spent at RHS, Brandenburg has learned a lesson that keeps motivating her to strive to be the best she can be.

“I have learned that the hardest things come with the greatest rewards,” Brandenburg said.  “You just have to push through everything.”

Brandenburg and her classmates will graduate on Friday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m.
