County school board makes personnel moves

The end of the school year is here at last.

As the reality of summer break takes hold, students are rejoicing over their freedom, and teachers are traveling to their favorite vacation spots. However, a few students will find themselves in summer school, and some teachers will not be returning next year.

These details were discussed by the Franklin County Board of Education meeting on May 12.

The board approved June 2 through June 26 as summer school dates for 2015, to be held at Tharptown, Red Bay and Belgreen. The fees for summer school are as follows: In system half credit costs $150, and whole credit is $300; out of system half credit costs $200, and whole credit is $350.

The summer school teacher positions approved for the contract period of June 2-26, 2015 are Sonny Glasgow for Red Bay High School, Richie Hester for Belgreen High School and Brandi Gholston at Tharptown High School.

The board also approved numerous personnel changes:

•Retirement

-L.V. Russell, custodian at Vina High School, effective June 1, 2015.

-Phillip Reeves, teacher at Red Bay High School, effective June 1, 2015.

-James Steve Wood, teacher at Red Bay High School, effective June 1, 2015.

-Vickie Pounders, teacher at Phil Campbell Elementary School, effective June 1, 2015.

-Wyatt Hutcheson, Special Education teacher at East Franklin Junior High School, effective June 1, 2015.

-Cynthia Scott, teacher at Tharptown Elementary School, effective June 1, 2015.

-Rodney Smith, teacher and coach at Tharptown Elementary School, effective June 1, 2015.

-Jack Hester, teacher at East Franklin Junior High School, effective June 1, 2015.

-David Willis, teacher at Vina High School, effective June 1, 2015.

-Sandra Hammond, Special Education aide, effective June 1, 2015.

•Resignation

-Matt Noah, teacher and head boys basketball coach at Red Bay High School, effective May 22, 2015.

-Bill Smith, head football coach and part-time work at Tharptown High School, effective end of 2014-2015 school year.

•Resignation in Supplement

-Melissa McHenry, cheerleader co-sponsor at Tharptown High School, effective end of 2014-2015 school year.

•Employment

-Tammy Momic, CNP sssistant (assists with the Universal Free Breakfast Program and Organized After School Snack Program six-and-a-half hours per day) at Tharptown School, effective April 9, 2015.

•Principal Contract Renewals

-Ann Scott, principal at Tharptown Elementary School (five-year contract at present rate of pay).

-Nancy Hallman, principal at East Franklin Junior High School (five-year contract at present rate of pay).

-James Pharr, principal at Vina High School (five-year contract at present rate of pay).

•Non-Renewal of Contracts

-Amanda Murray, counselor at Belgreen High School.

-Laura Guidry, elementary teacher at Belgreen High School.

-Ginger Cole, elementary teacher at Red Bay School.

-Shirley Jackson, Special Education aide at Red Bay High School.

-Ashley Grimes, Pre-K teacher at Tharptown Elementary School.

-Laura McDuffa, Special Education aide at Tharptown Elementary School.

-Beth Lawrence, Special Education aide at Tharptown Elementary School.

-Kevin Lacey, JAG specialist at Tharptown High School.

-Jason Harris, Special Education aide at Vina High School.

•Intent to Transfer

-Kim Jones, from part-time Special Education teacher at East Franklin Junior High School and part-time Special Education teacher at Phil Campbell High School to full-time Special Education teacher at East Franklin Junior High School.

-Griffin Harris, from Special Education teacher at Tharptown High School to Special Education teacher at Phil Campbell High School.

The next board meeting will be June 30 at 5:15 p.m with work session at 5 p.m.
