City school board hires assistant principals at RMS, RES

With only a month left of summer vacation, the Russellville City Schools Board of Education has put in many hours this summer discussing plans to help the school system continue its success into the next school year. To make their vision possible, some staff members have been promoted to new positions.

Natalie Bendall, the former assistant principal at Russellville Elementary School, was officially promoted to assistant principal at Russellville Middle School at Thursday's board meeting.

“I am excited about this new opportunity to grow,” said Bendall. “Every school in our system is great, and our system is on its way to greater success.”

Bendall feels she has a lot to offer RMS because of her background in elementary education and her familiarity with the students.

“The RES fifth-graders will be sixth-graders this year,” Bendall said. “I already know most of the children at RMS because they’ve been through RES, and I have an established relationship with them.”

Bendall will be working with new RMS principal Dr. Karen Thorn.

“Dr. Thorn is an amazing woman, and I look forward to learning a lot from her,” said Bendall.

Paula Young will also be making a big change this year. She is moving from being a fourth-grade teacher at Russellville Elementary to being the assistant principal at RES.

“I’m very excited and look forward to a new adventure,” said Young, who has spent ten years teaching at RES. “I’ve had several role models, including Kristie Ezzell and Natalie Bendall. They’re disciplinarians, and they help students. In instructional leadership, I’ll have a better opportunity to help teachers and students.”

Having been a teacher herself, Young feels she will be able to empathize with the staff.

“I think I’ll be able to relate with teachers,” Young said. “I’m right out of the classroom and understand the stresses and struggles of being a teacher.”
