With tax collecting season right around the corner, the Franklin County Commission approved the temporary hiring of an additional employee in the Revenue Commissioner’s Office.
At its August 17 meeting, the commission approved revenue commissioner Gene Ellison’s request to temporarily hire Angie Haney. Haney’s period of employment will be September 21, 2015—January 15, 2016.
County administrator Crista Madden said commissioners approved the same hiring last year in advance of the end-of-the-year increase the office faces in payment of taxes.
Commissioners approved two personnel moves in the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, accepting the resignations of correctional officers Dennis Morgan and Craig Bullion. Approval was granted for the two vacant correctional officer/dispatcher positions to be posted.
In other action, the commission:
•Accepted the fuel bid from Tatum Oil, with a markup of .0689 cents per gallon.
•Approved a lease agreement with the North Alabama Highway Safety Office for a 12-month lease of the former Franklin County Solid Waste Office on Carroll Street. The county will receive $1,950 per month for one year, with an automatic renewal upon agreement of the parties.
•Set a purchase order cutoff of September 4, 2015, for any new purchases until the new fiscal year begins on October 1, 2015. All invoices from county departments must be turned in and processed before the September 30 deadline. All department heads have sent in budget requests for 2016, and the new budget will be finalized next month.
•Approved a resolution to place the renewal of the one-cent sales tax on the 2016 primary ballots in March. The two-year tax was approved in 2014 and calls for 75 percent of the one-cent tax to benefit local schools and 25 percent to be earmarked for county matching funds for ATRIP road and bridge improvement projects.
