BCDA camping fees on the rise

Overnight and monthly camping fees will increase this year on Bear Creek Development Authority properties after the BCDA Board of Directors approved a rate increase at its January 12 meeting.

Overnight camping fees increased from $17 to $20 per day at all five BCDA facilities, which include Slickrock, Elliott Branch, Horseshoe Bend, Williams Hollow and Piney Point.

Monthly campsite fees at Elliott Branch and Slickrock, the two most popular facilities, increased from $275 to 300 per month, with the other three sites seeing an increase of $25, from $225 to $250 per month.

“These additional fees will allow us to work on upgrades and continue electrical improvements at our campgrounds,” Shannon McKinney, BCDA administrator, said.

Recent improvements have included repaving the parking lot at Elliott Branch, a project jointly funded with TVA assistance, and installation of a handicapped-accessible fishing pier at Quarter Creek. A similar pier is being constructed at Mon Dye as well, McKinney said.

He said ongoing projects include replacing boards at numerous boat ramp docks and electric box upgrades at Slickrock and Elliott Branch. Those sites will see the main boxes increase capacity to handle peak usage during extreme heat. Individual boxes will remain 30 and 50 amperes.

Daily, three-day and annual BCDA permit fees remain unchanged for 2017.
