"Color Me Run" set for Friday at Tharptown

Tharptown Elementary School will host its third annual “Color Me Fun” Run/Walk on Friday, May 11 at 1:00 p.m., at the Tharptown High School football field.

This is an idea I had a couple years ago. I was able to convince the administration and soon everyone was onboard and very excited,” said Susie Tverberg, the run coordinator. “In 2016, we had around 20 sponsors and 400 participants. This year, we hope to have 50 sponsors and at least 600 participants.

Thanks to our valued sponsors, we are able to keep the cost of the event low so that all of our students may participate if they want to,” she added.

Tharptown students were invited to submit t-shirt designs for the “Color Me Fun” event. Sixth grader Angel Myers submitted the design that was chosen to be on all the t-shirts. Myers' drawing features a running wildcat.

I was amazed at the 65 entries that were turned in. It was a very tough decision for the committee. They narrowed it down to two students and Angel was chosen as the winner,” Tverberg said. “Pamela Miranda received honorable mention for her work. In appreciation of Angel's work, her name and year will appear underneath the design on the t-shirt. We are thankful for the hard work and time Angel put in creating the design.”

Myers said she was excited to hear her design had been chosen as the winner.

I was surprised. I found the design online and knew I wanted to do a running wildcat so I went with that,” Myers said. “I've always enjoyed art and it was exciting to hear my design was the winner.”

Myers, the daughter of Angela Parker and Scotty Borden, said she looks forward to the “Color Me Run” each year.

It's really fun and good for our school because it makes everybody happy,” she said.

The registration fee to enter the “Color Me Fun” Run/Walk is $5 for TES and THS students and faculty members, and $10 for non-students. This fee includes a “Color Me Fun” t-shirt, small pack of colored powder and an arm band. For more information on participating, email susietverberg@franklin.k12.al.us.
