Red Bay High School ranked among Alabama's top 100

A recent report from U.S. News and World Report ranked Red Bay High School among Alabama's top 100 high schools.

Red Bay was ranked as the state's 99th best high school, from a total of 376 high schools. The ranking was the highest of the five high schools that are part of the Franklin County Schools system.

The rankings are based on several criteria, including students' performance on the ACT Aspire exam. Red Bay students collectively scored in the 85th percentile, well above the state average. And RBHS students scored well above the state average and the Franklin County Schools average in math and reading proficiency.

Other factors included college readiness, reading and math performance and underserved students performance. This factor looks at how an underserved subgroup scored on state exams compared to non-underserved students among similar schools. 59 percent of Red Bay's student body are classified as economically disadvantaged.

Graduation rates and college curriculum breadth also were considered in the ranking process.

I am always impressed with the dedication to academic success demonstrated by our students, teachers and administrators,” Franklin County Schools Superintendent Greg Hamilton said. “We hope to continue making improvements but it's a credit to the students and teachers at Red Bay to be ranked near the top quarter of all Alabama high schools.”

Belgreen High School was the next-ranked Franklin County high school, at 159. Vina ranked 193rd out of 376. Tharptown and Phil Campbell High Schools were collectively ranked in the lowest category, from 250-376.
