Commission authorizes purchase of two dump trucks for Highway Department

The Franklin County Commission approved the purchase of two new dump trucks for the Highway Department at the commission's January 17th meeting.

The 2023 Kenworth T880 dump trucks come at a cost of $247,135 each.

In other agenda items, the commission:

--approved hiring Luke Truitt as a deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Greg Baker as a School Resource Officer with the FCSO and Hailey Brown as a corrections officer/dispatcher.

--accepted the resignations of Brent Wells as a School Resource Officer, Renae Halbrooks and Andrea Jenkins as corrections officers/dispatchers, and approved advertising for two corrections officer/dispatcher positions.

--approved hiring Ricky Pierce as a heavy equipment operator in the Solid Waste Department.

--approved purchase of a pull out truck to be used at the Franklin County Landfill Transfer Station for $6,500, with trade-in vehicle.

--approved changing the county employee mileage rate to $.655 per mile, consistent with the State of Alabama reimbursement rate.

--approved the purchase of Emergency Operations Center equipment upgrades in the amount of $32,518, received from a Homeland Security Grant, for use by the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency. The equipment will be purchased from Amber Video and Audio Services.

--rescinded a previous resolution authorizing repairs on the Franklin County Courthouse elevator due to an amended cost estimate over $50,000, which requires the project be let to bids.
