In other agenda items, the council:
—declared two 2016 Ford Explorers as surplus property in the Russellville Police Department and authorized their sale through GovDeals.
—approved an agreement with Alabama Pyrotechnics Guild for the 2025 July 4th Jam on Sloss Lake in the amount of $30,000. Mayor David Grissom also recognized Russellville Electric Board General Manager Derrick Moore, who attended Monday’s meeting. After declining to contribute to the 2024 July 4th Jam on Sloss Lake, the REB rejoins the Russellville Water and Sewer Board and Russellville Gas Board in making $10,000 contributions to this year’s event.
—approved the rehiring of Alex Prince with the Russellville Police Department.
—approved a proclamation declaring Sunday, June 8, 2025, as Race Amity Day in the City of Russellville. Race Amity Day is a day to promote understanding, respect and cooperation among people of different races and cultures.
As part of this year’s Race Amity Day, jointly sponsored by the Cities of Russellville, Florence, Tuscumbia, Sheffield and Muscle Shoals, a special concert will be held at the University of North Alabama on June 8th. That event will feature a special tribute to Russellville’s very own Rev. Charles Dale, who died earlier this year. Dale will be posthumously recognized for his outstanding lifetime efforts in promoting race amity and racial equality.
The next regular meeting of the Russellville City Council will be May 5, 2025, with work session at 6 p.m., and meeting to follow.
