Municipal election qualifying concludes

Qualifying for the August 26, 2025 Alabama municipal elections concluded Tuesday afternoon, and most local offices will have contested races.

Russellville District One  City Councilman David Palmer will be unopposed and will serve a fourth term on the council.

This is Palmer’s first time to run unopposed.

In Russellville, Mayor David Grissom will face Guadalupe ‘Lupe’ Martinez.

District Two Councilman Darren Woodruff will face Hunter Smith. District Three Councilman Gary Cummings will face Donnie Horton.

In District Four, Lonnie Freeman qualified Tuesday afternoon and will face incumbent Councilman Dexter Hamilton.

Jamie Harris, who represents Russellville’s District Five, will face Robbie Richardson.

In Phil Campbell, recently appointed Mayor Eddie Marbutt will face Greg H. Williams.

In City Council Place One, political newcomer Meegan Scott will run unopposed.

In City Council Place Two, incumbent Rodney Kuykendall will be unopposed. Kuykendall was appointed three years ago to complete the term of Jeremy Kastberg, who resigned in 2022.

The Place Three council seat will go to Billy Joe Burks, who had no qualifier sign up to run against him. Burks was recently appointed to fill Eddie Marbutt’s Place Three seat after Marbutt was appointed Mayor.

City Council Place Four will see three candidates. Incumbent Lynn Landers will face Jacqueline Knott and Walter Huet Charlie Willis Evans Jr.

In Place Five, newcomer Thomas Inman was the lone qualifier and will take office in the fall.

Red Bay Mayor Charlene Fancher will face two opponents in her bid for a third term, as Mike Shewbart and Rodney Belue qualified for the position.

For City Council Place One, incumbent Mike Kennedy will be unopposed., as will Place Two Councilman Jarod Massey, Place Four Councilman Jason Vinson and Place Five councilman Brad M. Bolton.

There is a three-person race for Place Three, including incumbent Herbert Trulove, Kathryn Cantrell Wilkins and Jonathon Strickland.

Municipal elections will be Tuesday, August 26th, with polls open from 7-7.
