The City of Russellville has developed a reputation for throwing one of the best birthday parties for our nation each year at the Fourth of July Jam on Sloss Lake, and this year's lineup can only enhance that reputation.
The annual event, sponsored by the City of Russellville, in partnership with the Russellville Electric Board, Russellville Gas Board and Russellville Water and Sewer Board, will feature delicious food, fun (and free) activities for kids, a lineup of great music and of course a fireworks spectacular second to none in northwest Alabama.
The day at Sloss Lake kicks off with the Cotton Flats Cruisers Car Show from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.
The Russellville Splash Pad and inflatables will be open starting at 12 p.m., for free fun for kids.
Live music on stage begins at 5 p.m., with the gospel group Purpose, followed by the Kerry Gilbert Band at 6:10 p.m., Rewind of the Shoals at 7:15 and headliner Darryl Worley taking the stage at 8:30 p.m.
And a full day of fun will be capped off with a massive fireworks show after Worley's set is complete.
There will be plenty of vendors selling all the food and drinks you want.
There is no admission charge. Just bring your own lawn chairs to enjoy the entertainment Friday evening.
The weather on Friday is expected to be sunny but hot, with a high temperature of 94 degrees, so make sure to stay hydrated as you celebrate our nation's birthday with friends and neighbors.
The annual Jam on Sloss Lake is coordinated each year by District Three City Councilman Gary Cummings. It's a team effort with Mayor David Grissom and the Russellville City Council, but Cummings is largely responsible for the growth the event has seen each year.
A limited number of parking spaces are available at the John Blackwell Complex, but shuttle buses will transport guests to and from Sloss Lake to off-site parking areas.
Russellville police and fire personnel will be on site throughout the entire event, with a medical tent set up for any medical or heat-related issues.
