Russellville girls win five in a row at Aggie Classic

Megan Warhurst did not allow an earned run in 5.1 innings for Russellville on Saturday, and Sydney Burcham’s RBI single in the bottom of the fifth gave the Lady Golden Tigers a 3-2 victory over Winfield and helped them wrap up a perfect 5-0 run at the Aggie Classic in Hamilton.

Russellville (23-18) trailed 1-0 before scoring twice in the bottom of the second inning. Alivia Clemmons led off with a single, moved to second on a sac bunt by Autumn Logan and then came home on Karlie Moore’s RBI double to right. Moore later scored on Madison Lamon’s RBI triple to put the Lady Golden Tigers on top 2-1.

Winfield tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth, but Russellville took the lead for good in the bottom half. Kalli Beth Daniel was hit by a pitch, moved up on A.J. Taylor’s sac bunt and then scored the go-ahead run on a single by Burcham.

Warhurst relieved starter Emma Whitfield with two outs in the top of the first and went the rest of the way, holding Winfield to just four hits and one unearned run. She struck out three and did not issue a walk.

Moore led the Lady Golden Tigers at the plate with a pair of doubles. Clemmons was 2-for-3 with a double, and Burcham, Lamon and Madison Murray each had one hit.

In previous action at the Aggie Classic:

Russellville 3 Hamilton 1

A three-run first inning and a solid outing from Krista Sikes in the circle carried the Lady Golden Tigers past Hamilton in their first game on Saturday.

A.J. Taylor reached on a bunt single in the bottom of the first and scored the game’s first run on Sydney Burcham’s RBI double. Following a walk to Kayla Cochran and an infield hit by Alivia Clemmons, Autumn Logan came through with a two-out, two-run single to centerfield to make it 3-0.

That was enough for Sikes, who did not allow an earned run in a five-inning complete game. She scattered seven hits, struck out four and walked two.

Taylor, Burcham, Clemmons, Logan and Kalli Beth Daniel each had one of Russellville’s five hits.

Russellville 6 Hamilton 3

Emma Whitfield struck out five batters in a complete game, and Sydney Burcham and Alivia Clemmons both went deep in a five-run third inning for the Lady Golden Tigers in their final game of the day last Friday.

Russellville was leading 1-0 when Madison Lamon drew a leadoff walk to start the top of the third. Kalli Beth Daniel followed with a single, and then one out later Burcham smacked a drive over the right-field fence for a three-run homer, her second of the season. After a single by Autumn Logan, Clemmons connected for her first home run of the year, a two-run shot to center that stretched the lead to 6-0.

Whitfield took care of the rest, holding Hamilton to two earned runs on four hits in five innings. She struck out five and walked just one.

Daniel finished 3-for-3 with a double, and A.J. Taylor also had a double. Kayla Cochran was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored.

Russellville 6 Haleyville 5

A.J. Taylor’s tie-breaking RBI single highlighted a four-run rally by the Lady Golden Tigers in their final at bat of last Friday’s second game.

Russellville was trailing 4-2 when Madison Murray led off the top of the fourth with a double. She moved up on a wild pitch and then scored on an error to make it a 4-3 game.

Haleyville scored once in the bottom of the fifth and was threatening for more when Russellville turned a game-ending double play to seal the deal. Emma Whitfield earned the win in relief, allowing one earned run on three hits in two innings. Starter Krista Sikes pitched the first two innings and gave up four runs, none of which were earned. She struck out one and allowed just one hit.
