Red Bay heads to Fyffe to open 2A playoffs

After losing 30-24 in double overtime to the Phil Campbell Bobcats, Red Bay head coach Heath Childers wasted no time starting to prepare for his team's next opponent, the Fyffe Red Devils.

Childers' review of the Phil Campbell game with his team was brief and focused.

We watched our game film against Phil Campbell to note and correct our mistakes heading into this game against Fyffe,” Childers said.

Fyffe is the gold standard for Class 2A football, as the Red Devils have won four state championships in the last seven years.

Fyffe finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record. The Red Devils outscored their opponents by a staggering 489-59 margin. But for Childers and his team, it's business as usual as they prepare for Friday's game.

We’re approaching this game like we do every week. We want to represent the school, the community and the football program well,” Childers said.

I've been very fortunate in my career to get off charter buses at UMS-Wright, Demopolis and Briarwood. I’ve had the opportunity to go around and see tons of great programs. This is the first time I’ve been to Fyffe. I’m excited to go to Fyffe and see where Red Bay stands as a program and how far we can go,” Childers said.

Red Bay finished its regular season with a 6-4 record, 3-3 in Region 8.
