Local Tang Soo Do students excel at Region 6 Tournament

Students of the Russellville Tang Soo Do martial art studio recently traveled to the World Tang Soo Do Association Region 6 Tournament, and several competitors came home with medals.

Region 6 is comprised of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee. Students from across Region 6 competed on October 1^st at Lee High School in Huntsville.

Students who participated in the tournament could medal in different aspects of Tang Soo Do ranging from weapons forms to empty hand forms and even sparring.

Tang Soo Do is a Korean martial art taught for self-defense, good health and self-improvement through endurance and hard work.

Seven students from the Russellville Tang Soo Do studio brought home hardware from the Region 6 Tournament. Those students and their awards are:

--Deryll Banning: 1^st in Weapons, 3^rd in Forms.
--Joy Brown: 3^rd in Forms, 2^nd in Sparring and 2^nd in Weapons.

--Landon Gerstman: 3^rd in Forms.

--Stephen Strickland: 3^rd in Weapons.

--Shaler Stone: 2^nd in Sparring, 3^rd in Forms, 3^rd in Weapons.

--Jonathan Brown: 1^st Forms, 1^st Weapons, 1^st Sparring.

--Jacob Hartsell: 1^st Forms, 1^st Weaons, 1^st Sparring.

Several Russellville Tang Soo Do students recently completed their Black Belt tests on the day before the Region 6 Championships. Black Belt candidates from All-American Tang Soo Do included Landon Gerstman and Karlee Faust (testing for Second Degree Black Belt) and Jonathan Brown, Shaler Stone and Jason Boyles (testing for First Degree Black Belt).

Studio owner and instructor Tom Jones said classes are held in Russellville at American Health and Fitness on Mondays and Thursdays, with the basic/youth class from 3:30-4:30 and the adult/advanced class from 4:30-5:30.

Students may enroll for classes starting at age 6.
