Coach of the Year
Donovan Hand, Red Bay
The Franklin Free Press announces its 2025 All-Franklin County Baseball Team. The players were nominated by the head coaches and were selected by the FFP sports editor. The Coach of the Year award was voted on by the coaches.
This season, the All-Franklin County Team was led by four Red Bay selections on the First Team, followed by three First Team nods for Russellville and Phil Campbell and one for Belgreen.
Red Bay senior Ty Reynolds is now a back-to-back all-county First Team selection and ASWA All-State selection. The pitcher led the Tigers in innings pitched and finished the campaign with a 5-2 record, a 1.93 ERA, a team-high 73 strikeouts, and three saves on the mound. The senior also helped himself and his team out at the plate, batting .515 for the year with 50 hits, 41 RBIs, and seven home runs. Reynolds was joined on the First Team by another all-state selection, junior Jeramiah Thorne, who went .394 at the dish, scored 39 runs, and recorded 25 RBIs; senior catcher Harley Strickland, who batted .333 with 23 RBIs; and outfielder Landyn Lewey, who hit .400 with a .505 on-base percentage.
Phil Campbell’s left side of the infield, junior shortstop Hagen Raper and senior third baseman Cohl Welborn made up half of the First Team infield and were joined by First Team designated hitter, senior Koltin Hester. Raper ended the season with a .388 batting average on a team-high 40 hits and came around to score 44 runs while swiping 27 bags. Welborn ended the season with a .354 average and a .488 on-base percentage, driving in 17 runs and scoring 20; he also did his part on the mound, earning a 5-3 record and one save. The DH Hester hit .354, driving in a team-high 35 runs while coming around to score 32 times himself; he also had a team-best 15 extra-base knocks.
Russellville’s three First Team selections were freshman pitcher Brayden Entrekin, senior infielder Ty Willis, and senior outfielder Brennon Thorpe. Entrekin, who also received ASWA All-State Second Team honors this season, tossed a team-high 63 and two-thirds innings; the freshman ended the campaign with a 6-4 record, a 1.60 ERA, allowing just 15 earned runs all season, and struck 76 batters, holding opponents to a .170 batting average against him. Entrekin also did his part at the plate, batting .421 in 121 at-bats with 27 RBIs and 31 runs scored. Willis ended his final season at RHS with a .339 batting average and a .417 on-base percentage, 19 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Thorpe batted .324 with a .436 OBP, scored 30 runs, knocked in 21 runners, and swiped 10 bags.
Belgreen freshman Colton Ashton rounded out the First Team. Ashton, a 2025 ASWA All-State Honorable Mention in Class 2A, batted a remarkable .437 with a .556 on-base percentage in 23 games played. He struck out just five times all season, scored 33 runs, and recorded 18 RBIs. The outfielder was also a menace on the base paths, stealing 30 bases in 31 attempts.
The Franklin County Coach of the Year, Donovan Hand of Red Bay, led his Tigers to another deep playoff run as RBHS finished the year in the Class 2A quarterfinals with a 25-9 record and a final No. 6 ranking.
