Coach of the Year
Sander Tverberg, Belgreen
The Franklin Free Press announces its 2025 All-Franklin County Softball Team. The players were nominated by the head coaches and were selected by the FFP sports editor. The Coach of the Year award was voted on by the coaches.
This season’s FFP All-Franklin County First Team was led by Belgreen, which had four selections, followed by two Tharptown players, two Vina players and one each from Phil Campbell and Russellville.
Belgreen’s four first teamers were sophomore pitcher Zoey Blaxton, sophomore Jemma Moore, and junior outfielders Bryn Scott and Mackinley Hogan.
Blaxton, who finished the season with a 25-10 record, recorded a 3.35 ERA, pitched three no-hitters, one perfect game, and struck out 124 batters in her campaign as the Lady Bulldogs’ No. 1 starter. The sophomore also did her part at the plate with 39 RBIs, 38 runs scored, seven home runs, and a .282 batting average. Moore batted .428 for the year and knocked in 49 runs while coming across to score 41 runs herself. Scott batted .356 with a .418 OBP and scored 61 runs while knocking in 24. Rounding out the First Team for BHS was Hogan, who hit .353, scored 44 runs, drove in 26 runs, and swiped 12 bags while maintaining a .925 fielding percentage out in the outfield.
Tharptown’s Alyssa Fischer and Lexi Little also earned First Team All-County honors. Fischer was the Lady Wildcats No. 1 arm in the circle, helping THS to a regional appearance. At the plate, Fischer batted .490 and notched 18 RBIs. Little also batted .490 for the season and ended her campaign with two home runs and 27 RBIs.
Vina’s Braxtyn Quinn, a junior infielder, earned a spot on the First Team by batting a remarkable .520, knocking in 33 runs, and she only struck out twice all season. Quinn was joined by sophomore Lana Bell, a utility infielder and pitcher, who batted .440 with 33 runs scored, 15 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases.
Phil Campbell’s Bella Welch, a junior catcher, was the Lady Bobcats’ sole First Team selection. Welch ended her campaign with a .344 batting average, a .474 OBP, and had a .976 fielding percentage behind home plate.
Rounding out the First Team was Russellville sophomore outfielder Ticelee Gholston. The mainstay in left field batted .399 in 46 games played, had an OBP of .423, and scored 39 runs. Gholston also gave opponents a problem on the base paths, swiping 30 bags in 32 attempts.
The Franklin County Coach of the Year, as voted on by the coaches, is Belgreen’s Sander Tverberg, who led the Lady Bulldogs to a 36-18 record, a Franklin County Tournament title, a final No. 7 ranking, and a final four appearance in the AHSAA Class 2A playoffs.
