The 100th Alabama High School Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships kick off today with ample representation from Franklin County. The large-school meet (4A-7A) begins today and runs through Saturday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. The state meet for 1A-3A will be at Cullman's Oliver Woodard Stadium this Friday and Saturday. U.S. News & World Report released their list of Best High Schools on Tuesday, and Russellville High School is ranked 21st out of 386 high schools in the state of Alabama and placed in the top 40 percent of high schools nationwide. The Franklin County Board of Education received a progress report on a number of repairs and renovations at several county schools at the board's April 23rd meeting. Two Northwest-Shoals Community College students, including one from Franklin County, were named as two of 48 students to the 2024 All-Alabama Academic Team. The students, Faith Cook and Emma Engle, were honored last week with a recognition program in Birmingham.
