My Take on This: For a good dad, every day is Father's Day

Father’s Day emerged like the beauty of a seasonal flower, to be admired and appreciated until all is memory, awaiting the following year to be enjoyed once again.

It saddens me to know there are such deserving dads that are acknowledged on that day only. After all, a good dad will teach his daughter to always respect herself. He will tell her she’s the prettiest girl in the world, and in a daddy’s eyes and heart, nothing could be truer.

He will do anything to make her happy, and woe to the man who causes unhappiness to his “baby girl.” That’s yet another thing—a daughter will be his “baby girl” from the moment she enters the world until she draws her last breath.

I carry with me the memories of such a daddy. I was blessed to have a daddy who loved me as much as I loved him. Every day was Father’s Day to me and to him.

A good dad will teach his son the importance of honesty, dependability, respect toward others and taking pride in his character and also in his work ethic. He will teach him the characteristics of becoming a man and then step aside and let him choose his own path and allow him to decide the man he wants to be.

I pray your daddy will have Father’s Day every day and is still in your life. I can no longer make new memories with my daddy. That choice was taken from me in 1970, but I cherish our old memories.

Always remember to tell your daddy you love him, but most importantly remember to show him. It can be something as simple as a pone call or taking time out of your busy schedule to go visit.

Just think about this for a minute. You’re always saying, “I just don’t have the time.” If he died today, I bet you’d take out the time to go to the funeral. Sad but true, right? Which would mean more to him? Exactly. So, now just how busy is your life that you can’t give him a little time?

And I’m not talking about the special holidays. I’m saying make a special time for him. Besides, it’s not love without a little sacrifice. The choice is yours.

As you know, though, that’s just my take on this. Until next time.
