The Franklin County Commission voted Monday to accept resolutions from the Isbell and Rockwood Water Systems requesting they disband and have their service absorbed by the Russellville Water and Sewer Board.
Both systems receive water through Russellville already, but handle billing and service themselves. Isbell and Rockwood manager Frank Bishop said it was no longer economically feasible for the water systems to continue operations.
Isbell serves approximately 340 customers and Rockwood serves 85.
In other action, the commission:
--approved the termination of Miles Anthony Allen from the Franklin County Solid Waste Department and authorized the hiring of a temporary employee for that position.
--approved a request from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department ot purchase a telephone system from Ambient Solutions in the amount of $7,737, with a monthly charge of $431.20. The department is currently paying approximately $2,000 per month for telephone expenses, so the new system is expected to provide a cost savings.
--approved a promotion of Shane Oliver to sergeant from corrections officer.
--authorized the removal and resetting of guardrails on a bridge on Highway 44 back to where they were originally set. A group of citizens appeared at the recent work session and addressed safety concerns about the bridge to the commission.
--accepted a proposal of 2.48% fixed rate on a $500,000 line of credit with Community Spirit Bank. The line of credit would be used to pay required up front expenses for road and bridge grant projects that will later be reimbursed to the county.
Franklin County Probate Judge Barry Moore said he hoped the line of credit would not be needed, but it is in place if the general fund cannot absorb a required up-front payment on reimbursable grants.
