Not many musicians can come close to creating that lonesome sound of a Hank Williams song and then move immediately into a perfect cover of a Midland song such as “Drinkin’ Problem.” Singer/ songwriter Tyler Jones of Killen might just be that man, though. Youtube has a collection of Tyler Jones covers and original songs that prove what a range he has in musical styles and sounds. Comments by new fans include “best cover I have heard” and “perfect voice for this”. It seems so easy for this Killen native and Rogers High School graduate. What is it about Rogers High School and musicians? There must be something in the water there. Last week at the Grammys, Roger’s graduates Jason Isbell won two Grammys and the Secret Sisters were nominated for one. Will Tyler Jones be the next big thing out of this small Lauderdale County community that seems to produce so many musicians?
Jones will be performing his signature sounds this Saturday night at the Roxy Theatre in Russellville. As a guest of The KGB, he will be opening the show at 7 p.m. The KGB have been known to bring some big names to Russellville as their guests of their monthly Rockin’ at the Roxy show which has been produced on the second Saturday night of the month for the past ten years now. Many guests such as the Grammy nominated Secret Sisters performed their first show on the stage of the Roxy. This past fall, James LeBlanc performed songs from his new cd at the Roxy after being listed in Rolling Stone magazine’s July edition as one of the “ten new country artists you need to know”. So when you see and hear the many guests at the Roxy, you don’t ever know if you might be watching the next big thing to hit Nashville! That may be the reason so many visitors keep going back each month, some traveling for 45 minutes to an hour to be able to say “I saw them back at the Roxy right before they hit it big.” Tickets for Rockin’ at the Roxy are $10.00 each. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7. The KGB will be playing a variety of songs from the hits of country stars and bands, Southern Rock, classics from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and they always take a moment to sing an old favorite from the church hymnal in acapella style. The KGB consists of lead singer Kerry Gilbert, Mitchell Curtis, Hugh Banks, Shane Goodson, Alyssa Ashley, and Randy Kimbrough.
