Country legend T. Graham Brown and local artists set for July 4th Jam on Sloss Lake

Once again, the City of Russellville’s annual 4th of July Jam on Sloss Lake features an exciting mix of entertainment, including talented local artists along with Grand Ole Opry member T. Graham Brown.

Brown will take the stage at Sloss Lake at 7 p.m., followed by Austin Bohannon, who will close the musical portion of the night with his set which begins at 8:30 p.m.

Approximately 10 minutes after Bohannon’s set, the traditional huge fireworks display will start.

Brown has recorded over 15 studio albums and charted 28 singles on the Billboard and gospel charts, including six number one hits among his 14 top 10 singles.

His voice is recognizable from his singing advertising campaigns for McDonald’s, Dr. Pepper, Coca Cola, Dodge Trucks, Ford and the highly popular ‘Run for the Border’ promotion from Taco Bell.

Live entertainment begins at 4 p.m., with the gospel trio Purpose. Rewind takes the stage at 5 p.m., followed by the Kerry Gilbert Band at 6, leading up to Brown’s set.

The evening’s events follow a full day of activities, beginning with the annual Cotton Flats Cruisers Car Show from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.

Starting at noon, there will be free inflatables and use of the Russellville Splash Pad at no cost to kids. And an array of food vendors will offer a variety of drinks and foods for sale.

District Three City Councilman Gary Cummings first presented the July 4th Jam on Sloss Lake idea to his fellow councilmen a decade ago, and he’s taken on the unofficial annual role of coordinator for the day-long festival. Russellville Mayor David Grissom said the council has learned to trust and rely on Cummings to plan each year’s event.

“We have a great music lineup which includes some wonderful local talent along with a country music legend. We extend special thanks again this year to Councilman Gary Cummings for his hard work and dedication to our annual 4th of July Jam on Sloss Lake,” Grissom said.

This year’s Jam on Sloss Lake coincides with our nation’s 250th birthday. It was July 4, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, officially severing the 13 original colonies’ political connections to Great Britain.

The annual 4th of July Jam on Sloss Lake is co-sponsored by the Russellville Electric Board, Russellville Gas Board and Russellville Water and Sewer Board along with the City of Russellville.

There is no admission to attend the Jam, which has seen more than 25,000 in attendance some years with favorable weather conditions.
