Sheriff’s Office, Red Bay PD to square off in hoops fund-raiser for two local families
A first responders basketball game set for next Saturday will benefit families of two children who are battling cancer.
The game will feature employees of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office taking on the Red Bay Police Department in a basketball game that tips off at 7 p.m., in the Red Bay High School Gym. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 and concessions will be available.
Kyle Palmer, Investigator with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, said the fun event will be for a good cause—with all proceeds and donations going to the families of Sawyer Knoblock and Paxton Brooks, two local children fighting to beat cancer. Knoblock lives in Red Bay and Brooks and his family live in Vina.
The public is encouraged to come out and show your support for this worthy cause—and you might see some decent basketball talent in the process!
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office faces off with the Russellville Police Department each year in a fund-raiser basketball game, but this time the Red Bay PD will attempt to defend their home court in what should be a fun event for everyone in attendance. This will be the first time for the two departments to get together for a basketball game.
“We would love to have as many people as we can at the game to help these families out,” Palmer said. “We’re looking forward to doing this, helping these families and having some fun in the process.
“Please come out and show your support,” Palmer added.
Palmer said the idea for the game came from former FCSO employee Chad Holcombe, who suggested the two departments get together for a basketball game with proceeds benefiting these two local families going through a difficult time.
