City of Russellville receives state tourism grant for July 4th Jam on Sloss Lake

At its August 4th meeting, the Russellville City Council accepted a grant from the Alabama Tourism Department applicable to the city’s July Fourth Jam on Sloss Lake.
Mayor David Grissom received notification on July 7, 2025, from Gov. Kay Ivey that a $3,900 grant was awarded to the city to assist with expenses incurred in the 2025 Jam on Sloss Lake.
The council gave Grissom the authority to sign a letter of understanding outlining the terms and conditions of the grant.
In other agenda items at its August 4th meeting, the council:
—approved a resolution to replace poll worker William Stone in District 3 with Melissa Mayfield after Stone notified city officials he would not be able to work the August 26th election.
—rescinded the previous temporary appointment of Sergeant Bryan Sutton to the Lieutenant position in the Russellville Fire Department and temporarily appointed Sergeant Grant Tarascou to the Lieutenant position from August 2-October 24, 2025.
—accepted a letter of resignation from Russellville Police Department officer Luther Posey and declared a vacancy for patrol officer and authorized advertisement of the same.
—accepted a letter of resignation from Heavy Equipment Operator II Cody Logan in the Russellville Street Department and hired Coby Abston fill the position after declaring a vacancy.
—approved payment of a $100 claim from Amy Hamilton for damage to a vehicle.
The next regular meeting of the Russellville City Council will be August 18, 2025, with work session at 6 p.m., and meeting to follow
