First annual Frog Pond Roadside Cleanup set for Saturday, January 10th

County Road 22 isn’t just a conduit connecting Highways 43 and 187, it traverses through the heart of Franklin County’s Frog Pond community.

And Frog Pond residents will pay their respects to that lifeline on Saturday, January 10th, with the first annual Frog Pond Roadside Cleanup of County Road 22.

Nothing formal or special. Just a way to show a little pride in their community, according to Frog Pond resident Steve Trash.

“It’s a small, grassroots effort focused on neighbors taking care of the place we call home,” Trash said.

The cleanup will take place Saturday morning from 9 a.m.-12 noon, with volunteers meeting at the Frog Pond Community Center to sign in and receive their safety gear, courtesy of ‘Keep the Shoals Beautiful,’ a non-profit organization that has loaned its safety vests, trash grabbers and cleanup equipment for the day.

“This event isn’t about scale—it’s about spirit. It’s neighbors helping neighbors, working side-by-side, and showing pride in Frog Pond and Franklin County. We hope to make this an annual tradition,” Trash said.

Advance support for the First Annual Frog Pond Roadside Cleanup has come from multiple sources and supporters, including Frog Pond resident and local musician Kerry Gilbert, who has assisted with organizing the first event.

“We want people to ‘bundle up and clean up’ next Saturday. We encourage everyone to get the word out and that can make a big difference in a small community,” Gilbert said.
