Former Russellville Mayor Troy Oliver passes away

Former Russellville Mayor Troy Oliver died Saturday at his Russellville home.

Oliver served as Russellville Mayor from 2008-2012.

Oliver was promoted to Brigadier General in the Alabama Army National Guard in 1995. He served as Commander of the 142d Signal Brigade, which was comprised of three reserve components and one active component signal battalion. His long record of distinguished military service began in 1965.

Akins Funeral Home of Russellville is assisting the Oliver family with arrangements. A family member said a visitation is planned at First Baptist Church Russellville, but details on the funeral and visitation will be announced later.
