Franklin County Board of Education fills personnel moves in advance of new school year

Personnel moves comprised most of a short meeting of the Franklin County Schools Board of Education on August 5th, three days before the start of the new school year for students.

The board approved several Teacher Excellence and Accountability for Mathematics and Science (TEAMS) contracts for the following teachers:

Advanced Contract (5 years): Devon Hester, Leann Moore, Phil Campbell School, Shauna Humphries, Red Bay, Miranda Stephen’s, Tharptown.

Advanced Contract (3 years): Collier Cantrell, Austin Oldag and Katelyn Mitchell, Belgreen, Jamie Duboise, Walker Kennerly, East Franklin, Darby Allison, Trevor Allison, Lucas Gilbert and Courtney Karr, Phil Campbell, Hugh Johnston and Leah Torisky, Red Bay, Areanna Orozco, Tharptown and Alisha Newton, Vina.

Preliminary Contract (1 year): Mathinee Spencer, Tharptown.

Other agenda items approved by the board included:

—Resignation: Kim Trapp, Child Nutrition Program Assistant, Phil Campbell.

—Employment: Shelly Kent, special education teacher Red Bay, Benton Armstrong, bus mechanic, Madalyn Humphries, Natalie Hammond, Trey Nanney, Roman Lynch, Kristen Clack, Susan Strickland, Jennifer McDowell, special education aides Franklin County Schools and Jennifer Tharp, Child Nutrition Program Assistant, Franklin County Schools.

—Transfers: Talon Thomas, from health/access facilitator at Belgreen to assistant principal at Tharptown Elementary, Byron Gann, from special education aide at Tharptown High School to special education aide at Tharptown Elementary, Caden Baker, from special education aide at Phil Campbell Elementary to special education aide at East Franklin.

—Paid Parental Leave: Danielle Hargett, cosmetology instructor, Career Tech Center, eight weeks beginning August 25, 2025, Samantha Flanagan, social science teacher, Tharptown High School, eight weeks beginning September 22, 2025 and Macy Bass, elementary teacher Red Bay Elementary, eight weeks beginning July 31, 2025.

—FMLA: Samantha Flanagan, social science teacher, Tharptown High School, four weeks following eight weeks paid parental leave.

—New Teacher Substitutes: Tracy Andrews, Lisa Gann, Falisha Kaufman and Marsha Inmon.

—Substitute Bus Drivers: Shelia Ray, Hugh Johnston, Michael Burkett and Joshua Sutton.

—Child Nutrition Substitute: Kimberly Shelnutt.

—Volunteers: Marcus Haataja, assistant football coach Phil Campbell, Chris Daily, Chad Holcomb and Dale Jeffreys, assistant football coaches Red Bay.

The next regular meeting of the Franklin County Board of Education will be a board meeting/second budget hearing on September 11th, with work session at 4 p.m., and meeting to follow.
