Franklin County BOE approves personnel changes at June 2 meeting
As is the case at the end of most school years, the agenda for the Franklin County Board of Education’s June 2nd meeting was full of personnel items.
This included a large number of changes in administrative and coaching positions.
The board approved the following agenda items:
—Retirement: Gary Gunderman, Tharptown science teacher, and Jennifer Warhurst, Elementary Curriculum Director, Franklin County Schools.
—Resignation: Stephanie Fisher, Tharptown Elementary teacher and Greg Pace, custodian at Belgreen High School.
—Resignation in Supplement: Billy Heath Childers, Varsity Football Coach at Red Bay.
—Employment: F.G. Trae Wiygul, Assistant Principal and Varsity Volleyball Coach at Red Bay High School, Jacob Sparkman, Assistant Principal at Belgreen High School, Carolyna White, elementary teacher at Belgreen, Katelynn Mitchell, science teacher at Belgreen, Courtney Karr, elementary teacher at Phil Campbell, Kylee James, half-time elementary fine arts teacher/half-time high school English teacher at Vina, Alisa Audrey, Emily Pendley Young and Chloe Padgett, elementary teachers at Tharptown, Misty Terry, Meagan Brocato, Laura Eberle, Brianna Gray and Morgan Kendall Owens,elementary teachers at Tharptown, Sarah Hattaway, Teresa Whitten, Leah Torisky, Alisha Newton as ACT Prep teachers, Donald Brian White as physical education teacher and Varsity Football Coach at Tharptown High School, Lanice White, Varsity Volleyball Coach at Phil Campbell, Kelly Vinson, Jessica Hendrixson, Lori Johnson, Myra Johnson, Child Nutrition Program Assistants, Brita Davis, Cynthia Carter and Randy Hester as Summer Learning Camp Bus Drivers.
—Transfers: Jamie Payne, from Red Bay elementary teacher to Red Bay High School guidance counselor, Amy Sutton, from PCES teacher to mathematics specialist at PCES, Breanna Rickard, from Registered Nurse Franklin County Schools to Health Science teacher at Career Tech Center, Clarissa Patterson, from Child Nutrition Program Assistant at Red Bay to Child Nutrition Program Manager at Red Bay Cafeteria and Fayrent Morgan, from Child Nutrition Program assistant at Tharptown to Child Nutrition Program assistant at East Franklin.
All personnel moves were recommended by Superintendent of Education Greg Hamilton and unanimously approved by the board with the exception of the following:
Billy Heath Childers, resignation from Red Bay Varsity Football Coach, with board member Kacey Johnston abstaining, Carolyna White, Belgreen elementary teacher, with Board President Terry Welborn recommending the hiring and Hamilton not making a recommendation and transfer of Clarissa Patterson, from Child Nutrition Program Assistant at Red Bay to Child Nutrition Program Manager at Red Bay Cafeteria, with board member Kacey Johnston voting against the motion.
Other items approved by the board at its June 3rd meeting included:
—approval of 12-month roll over options for bids awarded by the Northwest Alabama CNP Cooperative Group for the 2025-26 school year, including produce bid from O.K. Produce, Supplemental Grocery Bid with Osborn Foodservice and milk bid from Purity/Murfreesboro Pure Milk Company.
—out of state trip for PCHS volleyball team to Freed-Hardeman Univeristy in Henderson, Tenn., on August 2, 2025.
The next regular meeting of the board will be June 26, 2025, with work session at 9 a.m., and meeting to follow.
