Municipal elections set for Tuesday, August 26th in Russellville, Red Bay and Phil Campbell

After a summer of campaigning, the day of reckoning for Alabama municipal candidates is almost here, as voters across the state will cast ballots Tuesday, August 26th for most city council and mayoral positions.

In Franklin County, the Towns of Vina and Hodges will not hold elections as all candidates who qualified to run were unopposed.

While there are several unopposed races in Red Bay, Phil Campbell and Russellville, there are also contested races in each of the three towns. Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., next Tuesday.

—Russellville: Five polling locations as follows: District One, Russellville High School Auditorium, District Two, College Avenue 1st Missionary Baptist Church, District Three, Russellville City Hall, District Four, Chucky Mullins Center and District Five, A.W. Todd Centre.

Contested races in Russellville include: Mayor: David Grissom (Incumbent) and Guadalupe Martinez. District Two Council: Darren Woodruff (Incumbent) and Hunter Smith. District Three Council: Gary Cummings (Incumbent) and Donnie Horton. District Four Council: Dexter Hamilton (Incumbent) and Lonnie Freeman. District Five Council: Jamie Harris (Incumbent) and Robbie Richardson.

City Councilman for District One David Palmer had no opposition and will not appear on the ballot.

—Phil Campbell: One polling location at the Phil Campbell Community/Senior Center, 132 Sherry Bryce Drive.

Contested races in Phil Campbell include: Mayor: Eddie Marbutt (Incumbent) and Greg H. Williams. Place Four City Council: Lynn Landers (Incumbent), Jacqueline Knott and Walter Huet Charlie Willis Evans, Jr.

Place One candidate Megan Scott was unopposed, along with Place Two incumbent Rodney Kuykendall, Place Three incumbent Billy Burks and Place Five candidate Thomas Inman.

—Red Bay: One polling location at the Red Bay Senior Center, 115 5th Avenue SW. 

Contested races in Red Bay include: Mayor: Charlene Fancher (Incumbent) and Mike Shewbart. Place Two Council: Herbert Trulove (Incumbent), Jonathon Strickland and Kathryn Cantrell Wilkins.

Place One incumbent Mike Kennedy, Place Three incumbent Jarod Massey, Place Four incumbent Jason Vinson and Place Five incumbent Brad Bolton were unopposed and will not appear on Tuesday’s ballot.

Registered voters must bring a valid photo identification with them in order to receive a ballot. Approved types of identification included an Alabama driver’s license, Alabama photo voter ID card, United States passport, a government issued military or tribal photo ID and a student/employee photo ID from an Alabama college or university.

Thursday, August 21st is the final day to cast an absentee ballot on site with the Absentee Election Manager. And all mailed-in absentee ballots received until Tuesday, August 26th at 12 p.m., will be counted.
