Phil Campbell woman facing manslaughter charge
The following is a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office regarding a manslaughter arrest:
On June 2, 2026, deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office responded to 195 Old Winstead Road in Phil Campbell, Alabama, after receiving a report of an unresponsive male. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 48-year-old Ronnie Shane O'Kelly deceased in a bathroom.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the death, investigators were requested to respond to the scene to conduct a more thorough investigation.
During the course of the investigation, deputies discovered a camera in Mr. O'Kelly's bedroom. Investigators determined that the camera had recorded the final moments of Mr. O'Kelly's life. The video showed Beverly Renea Dyer, who was Mr. O'Kelly's roommate, injecting him with a substance. Approximately ten minutes later, Mr. O'Kelly collapsed to the floor. According to the investigation, he remained there for several hours before being discovered by Dyer.
Investigators also determined that Dyer failed to disclose that she had injected Mr. O'Kelly when she was initially interviewed on the day his body was discovered. After reviewing the video evidence, investigators confronted Dyer, who admitted to injecting Mr. O'Kelly with methamphetamine. She further admitted that she intentionally withheld this information because she believed she would be arrested for causing his death.
As a result of the investigation, Beverly Renea Dyer has been charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Manslaughter.
The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
