RV City Council accepts grant for purchase of desktop computers for police department
The Russellville City Council accepted a $5,000 grant from the Franklin County Community Development Commission that will be used to purchase 13 desktop computers for the Russellville Police Department.
The grant acceptance came at a short council meeting held Monday, August 18th. In addition to the $5,000 grant, the council authorized spending an additional $13,543.87 to complete the purchase of the desktop computers.
Other agenda items approved by the council included:
—declaring a vacancy for Patrol Officer in the Russellville Police Department. This vacancy was created after Patrol Officer Alex Prince was fired by RPD Chief Chris Hargett on August 10th.
Prince, who had been recently rehired by the city after resigning from his Patrol Officer position last year, was rehired on probationary status.
Hargett said Prince was terminated for a violation of department policy. He declined to elaborate on what the violation consisted of.
Prince’s termination did not have to receive approval from the city council since he was on probationary status.
At the council’s August 4th meeting, the city council approved the resignation of Patrol Officer Luther Posey, and authorized advertising for a vacancy for the position.
Hargett said Posey was given the option of resigning or being terminated, so he submitted his letter of resignation when presented with those options.
Hargett said the decision to terminate Posey or have him resign was the result of ‘multiple’ incidents in which he was disciplined for violation of department policy.
