Thanks to a $5,000 community development grant, Russellville High School’s Healthcare Science program has a new electrocardiogram, or EKG, that will provide students valuable training to help complete required clinical skills as well as better preparing them for a healthcare career.
The completion of the grant was announced Friday morning immediately before the annual meeting of the Northwest Resource Conservation and Development Council, whose support was instrumental in the grant process.
RC&D operates through the support of the Alabama Legislature and Franklin County’s two legislators Sen. Larry Stutts and Rep. Jamie Kiel, attended Friday’s announcement.
“This piece of modern medical equipment will immediately provide our students hands-on experience as they move toward a healthcare career as well as any further education they pursue,” Kiel said.
Northwest RC&D serves a five-county area including Franklin, Colbert, Lauderdale, Marion and Winston counties.
RC&D grants are available to 501(c)(3) non-profits, units and sub-units of government and schools.
According to its webpage, RC&D’s mission is to “implement and promote impact, driven projects and activities designed to promote the sustainability and productivity of the abundant, natural and human resources of our five-county, target area while improving the quality of life within the community.”
RC&D funds these communities through grants for special projects that enhance our human and natural resources to improve the quality of life for a better future for tomorrow.
