The Franklin County Veterans Day Parade will roll down North Jackson Avenue in downtown Russellville on Saturday, November 7th, at 11 a.m.
The annual parade is jointly sponsored by American Legion Post 64 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5184.
Prior to the parade, a wreath ceremony will take place at the Veterans Memorial in front of the Franklin County Courthouse, with a wreath of flowers laid at the foot of the memorial in a formal ceremony done by local veterans. The wreath ceremony begins at 10 a.m., and will be conducted by local veterans.
All veterans wanting to ride in the parade should be at the Farmers Market behind the A.W. Todd Centre by 10:30 a.m., the morning of November 7th.
To enter a float for the parade, contact Grant Atkins with American Legion Post 64 at 256-627-2866 or be at the parade lineup at the Farmers Market no later than 10:30 a.m., that morning.
This year, Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11th. The federal holiday honors all living and deceased U.S. military veterans who served honorably in wartime or peacetime.
While the annual Russellville Christmas parade and RHS Homecoming Parade see massive crowds lined up along Jackson Avenue, sadly, the Veterans Day parade often takes place with only a fraction of the other events in attendance.
Please make plans to attend and honor our Franklin County Veterans, and encourage your family and friends to do so as well.
