Foster Grandparent Program to host event honoring AmeriCorps senior volunteers

In conjunction with AmeriCorps Seniors hosting its first-ever Nationwide Celebration next week, the City of Russellville Foster Grandparent Program will honor local AmeriCorps volunteers 55 and older in the program.

On Tuesday, September 15th, the contributions made by Foster Grandparents mentoring and tutoring children in Franklin, Colbert, Lauderdale, Marion and Winston Counties will be spotlighted.

The City of Russellville Foster Grandparent Program, an AmeriCorps Seniors program, last year placed 39 volunteers into Northwest Alabama public schools, Head Start centers, Pre-K/Child Development Centers and daycare centers, mentoring and tutoring more than 100 children one-on-one with 48,220 hours of service.

“AmeriCorps Seniors program volunteers bring compassion, talent and commitment to every community they serve,” said Robin Corindo, Acting Director of AmeriCorps Seniors. “Their service reflects the powerful impact of older adults in strengthening communities nationwide.”

The City of Russellville Foster Grandparent Program will host its celebration with a recognition event from 1-2:45 p.m., September 15th, at the Florence Indian Mound Museum, 1028 S. Court Street in downtown Florence.

“We invite you to join us in recognizing their contribution—whether by attending our celebration on Tuesday, September 15th, visiting one of our service sites or sharing a message of appreciation. Your support helps elevate the value of service and intergenerational connection,” Foster Grandparent Program Director Jessica Lawler said.
