Belgreen, Tharptown, Vina athletes compete at Class 1A-3A Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Cullman

Student-athletes from three county schools—Belgreen, Tharptown, and Vina—took part in the AHSAA Class 1A-3A Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Cullman’s Oliver Woodard Stadium May 1-2.

Belgreen had three individuals and one relay team participate in the state meet.

Senior Lucas Chambless had the best finish of any BHS athlete, coming in 13th overall in the boys’ long jump final with a mark of 17-5.25. Fellow senior Briseyda Luna, running in the girls’ 1600-meter, placed 21st in her final event with a time of 6:44.38.

Junior Lilliana Willingham competed in both the girls’ long jump and triple jump events and placed 18th in both. In the long jump, she recorded a distance of 13-5 and in the triple jump she finished with a mark of 28-9.25.

Meanwhile, Belgreen’s girls’ 4×100-meter relay team, consisting of Makenna Fisher, Kirby Schucker, Isabella Tate and Audree West, finished 15th in the preliminary heats and did not qualify for the relay final.

Tharptown freshman Madaline Amaro and sophomores Cody McCluskey and Carly Cason also participated in the 2A championship meet with Amaro and Cason competing in the girls’ 100- and 200-meter dashes, respectively, and McCluskey taking part in the boys’ long jump. All three came in 18th overall.

In the girls’ 100-meter dash Amaro had a prelim time of 13.69, and in the 200-meter Cason recorded a prelim time of 29.14; neither time was enough to qualify for the final heat in those events. In the boys’ long jump final McCluskey’s mark was 16-9.

Vina, competing at the 1A level, saw two student-athletes complete final events. Eighth-grader Lindie Easterling placed 10th in the girls’ 1600m run final with a time of 6:28.92, and Cecilia Rowbottom, another eighth-grader, came in 23rd in the girls’ discus throw with a mark of 60-11.
