The Franklin Free Press has announced its 2024 All-Franklin County Baseball Team. The FFP’s all-county team consists of 21 players from all six varsity baseball teams in Franklin County. Red Bay and Russellville led with five selections each. Belgreen and Phil Campbell each had four selections, Vina had two players selected, and Tharptown had one. Players were selected based on nominations submitted by the head coaches.

Red Bay first baseman Reed Hamilton, Eli Farris, and Ty Reynolds were picked for the all-county team with Harley Strickland and Jeramiah Thorne named as honorable mentions. Each of these players were instrumental in Red Bay’s historic playoff run to the Class 2A semifinals. All five batted over .300 with junior Ty Reynolds leading the way in many categories for his team. He had a .484 batting average, and, on the mound, finished with a 9-2 record and a 1.76 ERA in 191 innings pitched.

Russellville also had five selections and had the most first team picks. The Golden Tigers, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Class 5A playoffs for the second consecutive season, were led by seniors Michael Scofield, Daniel Askew, Brandt Cummings, and Cayden Johns and junior designated hitter Neyland Baker. Johns was Russellville’s No. 1 pitcher this season with a 7-4 record and a 2.02 ERA. The Golden Tigers’ four position players selected were led in RBI by Baker with 41 and runs by Askew with 44.

Belgreen’s four all-county team picks were Landon Cox, Alex Guidry, Will King, and honorable mention Rush Berryman. The Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the Class 1A playoffs with considerable contributions from the four honorees. Cox ended the season with a remarkable .511 batting average, leading his team with his bat and on the basepaths with 30 stolen bases. King was Belgreen’s workhorse on the mound with a team-best 5-2 record and team-high 44 and a third innings pitched. He also had the Bulldogs best ERA at 2.68. Senior Alex Guidry had a team-high 33 RBI.

Rounding out the rest of the team were honorable mentions from Phil Campbell, Vina, and Tharptown. Phil Campbell seniors Cody Quinn and Eli Taylor, junior Koltin Hester, and freshman Chandler Benford were top players in a down year for the Bobcats. Vina’s Alex Hargett and Tristan Farr and Tharptown’s Dawson Higgins complete the team.
