Golden Tigers medal twice at AHSAA Indoor Track and Field State Meet
The Russellville High School indoor track and field team had an impressive showing at the AHSAA Class 4A/5A State Meet over the weekend, rewriting the program record book and compiling several top finishes.

The most notable finishes for Russellville came in the track events. RHS had four top 10 finishes on the track, including two performances that sent Golden Tigers to the podium.
Sophomore Darron Jones had the best finish of the bunch, earning a silver medal in the boys 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.63. The time was also a new personal best for Jones and set a new school record.
Russellville’s boys 4x200m relay team also ended up on the podium, grabbing bronze—and setting a new program record—with a 1:32.17 finish.
Other top 10 finishes on the track included senior Connor Devaney’s sixth-place finish in the boys 60m final and the Golden Tigers’ 4x400m relay team’s 10th place finish. Devaney’s qualifying time of 7.16 in the 60m prelims set a new school record as did the 4x400m relay team’s time of 3:45.05 in the final heat.
Junior Julyun Francisco and sophomore Pascual Felipe had top 15 finishes in the boys 400m and boys 1600m, respectively.
In the field events, RHS had one top 10 placement. Sophomore Keira Cruse came in sixth place in the girls long jump final and set a new program record with a jump of 15-8.25 (4.78m).
Cruse also competed in the girls triple jump final and finished 13th.
Sophomore Sir Williams and senior Gavin McDaniel had top 15 finishes in the boys high jump and junior Jasen Noel came in 13th in the boys triple jump.
As a team, the Russellville boys’ team finished tied for 11th place with 17 points; Cruse, the lone competitor on the girls side for RHS, garnered three points for the team.
