Local schools race at 16th Annual Pepsi XC Challenge in Moulton

On Saturday, August 29, three schools from Franklin County—Belgreen, Russellville and Tharptown—competing in the 16th Annual Pepsi XC Challenge at H.A. Alexander Park in Moulton.

Belgreen and Tharptown had a couple of runners each in the small school girls’ 5k while Russellville had both teams racing in the large school 5k events.

Belgreen’s two student-athletes running in the small school girls’ 5k were eighth-grader Elizabeth Motes and senior Lindley Boyd. Motes finished 30th overall with a time of 26:21.00 while Boyd came in 112th with a time of 50:22.40.

Freshman Sophie Waldrep and junior Yasenia Ramirez ran for Tharptown’s girls in the 5k. Waldrep placed 23rd among the small school competitors, finishing the race in 25:01.70. Her teammate Ramirez completed the 5k in 32:24.90, good for 69th

Between Russellville’s boys’ and girls’ cross country squads, there were over 50 runners representing the black and gold at the Pepsi XC Challenge. Top among them in the large school boys’ 5k was junior Pascual Felipe, who came in 12th overall with a time of 17:30.50. On the girls’ side, Russellville’s top finisher was junior Heidy Jacobo. Jacobo placed 36th with her 5k time of 23:03.30.

As a team the RHS boys finished fifth out of 18. The RHS girls placed ninth out of 14 teams.
