Red Bay varsity basketball teams see split results in road regular season finales at Haleyville
On Monday, February 2, the Red Bay High School varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball teams concluded their 2025-26 regular seasons on the road against Haleyville. RBHS saw split results from the matchups as the girls’ team fell to the Lady Lions 55-21 while the boys defeated HHS 76-48.
In the girls’ contest, Haleyville doubled up on the Lady Tigers early and never really let up. At halftime Haleyville had a 27-11 lead. Red Bay was outscored 12-8 in the third quarter and 16-2 in the fourth quarter, ultimately falling by a 34-point margin.
Haleyville’s Cydney Yeager and Andi Romine each had 12 points to lead the scoring. Red Bay’s top scorer was Raigan Henson who finished with six points.
The Lady Tigers will play their next game at home against Lamar County in the Class 2A Area 10 tournament semifinals on Thursday, February 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The winner of that game will face top-seeded Sulligent in the area final on Monday, February 9.
In the Red Bay–Haleyville boys game, the Tigers used high-scoring second and third quarters to put the hosts away.
After the opening period, Red Bay already led by nine points but with a 22-point second quarter and a 23-point third quarter, the Tigers were able to increase their advantage to 26 points going into the final eight minutes.
In the fourth quarter, RBHS continued to outpace the Lions and won by 28 points. The victory improved Red Bay’s record to 21-5 overall.
Khalil Luster scored a game-high 24 points for the Tigers. The RBHS big man hit four three-pointers to start his scoring; the Tigers as a team made 12 threes in the game. Sophomore Davien Colburn also hit double figures for the Tigers with 10 points.
Red Bay, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A in the final Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings of the season, is the top seed in the upcoming area tournament. The Tigers will host the winner of Sulligent–Lamar County for the area championship on Tuesday, February 10. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
