RHS boys’ soccer coach Stanford resigns
The Russellville High School varsity boys’ soccer team will be looking for a new head coach to lead the program following the resignation of Trey Stanford. Stanford’s resignation was accepted by the Russellville City Schools Board of Education at its scheduled meeting on Tuesday, August 19.
Stanford, who led the boys’ soccer program at Russellville since it began in 2017, declined to comment.
“He is one of most driven and passionate coaches I have met. And he still fairly young in his career and leaving us for better opportunities. We wish him the very best,” RCS Superintendent Tim Guinn told the Franklin Free Press.
In nine years at Russellville, Stanford won over 90 games, coached 27 All-State selections, and led the Golden Tigers to seven section championships, including five in-a-row from 2021 to 2025. In postseason action, Stanford took Russellville to the AHSAA state quarterfinals three times and to back-to-back Class 4A/5A state title appearances in 2021 and 2022, where the Golden Tigers took home the runner-up Red Map trophy.
Stanford taught driver education at RHS. RCS will post the driver ed position with coaching duties. If a qualified coach is not hired when the position is filled, Guinn said he, Athletic Director Dustin Goodwin and RHS Principal Lt. Col. Norman Lier will look to fill the job internally. If any current employee is interested, they are encouraged to contact Coach Goodwin for more information.
