Tharptown softball camp a foundation for building successful program
Tharptown High School’s varsity softball coach Jonathan Jones knows that building a successful program begins well before his players reach high school.
That was the motivation for Jones and his team to hold a recent softball camp for students in the 3rd-6th grade—to generate momentum for younger students.
“We hope to keep growing our camp each year,” Jones said. “Our youth programs are the lifeblood to our school program and we want to thank all the people who have helped us with our youth programs the last few years.”
The two-day camp focused on fundamentals, including footwork, throwing and fielding, hitting mechanics and base running. The camp was held November 6th-7th on the school’s football/soccer practice field due to ongoing construction as a new turf surface is installed on the softball field.
The Wildcats made the Regional Tournament last season and Jones hopes his team will build off that success this spring.
He expressed his appreciation to all the kids who attended the camp and the parents who supported it.
Tharptown will host an umpires tournament on February 14th as a kickoff to the 2026 season.
