Tharptown varsity volleyball team beats Belgreen to win Franklin County Tournament
The Tharptown High School varsity volleyball team took home the 2025 Franklin County Tournament title on Saturday after beating the hosting Belgreen Lady Bulldogs in the championship round.
Tharptown and Belgreen, the defending county champ, met three times over the course of the tournament, splitting the first two matches 1-1 before the Lady Wildcats, who beat Phil Campbell 2-0 to start the double-elimination tourney, came out on top in the final match.
The Lady Wildcats, after defeating Phil Campbell and Belgreen, were perfect in group play and advanced to the championship round. Belgreen took the first game 25-12, 16-25, 15-13, but in the decisive second championship match Tharptown came out on top 19-25, 25-15, 15-11.
“I can’t put into words how proud I am of our team for winning the county tournament,” Tharptown head coach Lori Huffaker told the Franklin Free Press. “I am especially proud of their grit and determination when fighting back after being down a set—not once, but twice! That’s a HUGE accomplishment.”
“I absolutely love how they played together as a team and encouraged one another,” Huffaker added. “I hope they enjoy this moment and savor this victory! And I really hope it makes them hungry for more of it!”
