Belgreen eliminated by Pleasant Valley in first round of Class 2A baseball playoffs
In the opening round of the AHSAA Class 2A baseball playoffs, the Belgreen High School varsity baseball team was eliminated by No. 9 Pleasant Valley after losing the first two games in the best-of-three series. The Bulldogs dropped game one to the Raiders 11-2 and lost game two 6-2 Thursday night.
Game one saw the Bulldogs take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to an RBI single by Rush Berryman, but Pleasant Valley was quick to respond in the home half, going ahead 2-1 on an RBI single and a fielder’s choice that scored a runner from third base.
Belgreen later tied the game up 2-2 in the third inning when Easton Mitchell’s sacrifice fly to left field allowed Berryman, who had a perfect 3-for-3 game at the plate, to tag home. Again, however, the hosts soon delivered a reply: the Raiders tacked on three runs in the fourth to make it 5-2 before pushing five more across in the fifth and a final run in the sixth.
Starting on the mound for Belgreen was Ty Hamilton, who pitched five innings before being relieved by Chance Pennington, who finished out the game. Hamilton left after allowing 10 runs (only four earned) off six hits. Pennington allowed one unearned run in one inning pitched.
In game two, Belgreen fell behind 2-0 after three innings of play. An RBI double by Berryman in the fourth that scored Cayden Porter from third base cut the deficit to one run, but Pleasant Valley answered back with a three-run top of the fifth. Belgreen’s final run would be scored in the bottom half of that inning—a sac fly by Porter drove in Braden Hamilton—but it wasn’t enough for a comeback. The Raiders would add an insurance run in the sixth to take the final 6-2 lead.
Berryman, who threw six innings on the bump, was stuck with the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) off eight hits with four strikeouts. Colton Ashton came in in relief and pitched the last inning, giving up one hit and striking out one batter.
Offensively, Ashton and Mitchell led the way for the Bulldogs with two hits each. Braden Hamilton drew three walks in the contest.
The 2026 campaign saw the Bulldogs finish with a 15-14 record.
