Franklin County 4-H Horse Club makes strong showing at state competition

The Franklin County 4-H Horse Club rode off into the sunset from a recent state competition with several team and individual awards.

The 4-H Horse Club traveled to Montgomery on Saturday, March 14th for the Alabama 4-H Horse Project, hosted by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

The Franklin County team returned home with a first place, second place, third place and fifth place finish in various competitions.

The Franklin County Quiz Bowl Team came home with third place in the Junior Division. Team members included Eliza Beason, Braylie Bowling and Karlee Jones and were coached by Phil Campbell teacher Caleb Beason, Tina Cochran and Franklin County 4-H Extension Agent Alicia Swann.

Eliza Beason placed first in the Color Photography Junior Division and won second place in the Photo Picture Story category.

Braylie Bowling placed fifth in the Model Horse Scene competition.

Swann said there were more than 165 entries in the Creative Arts category, so she was pleased with how well Franklin County students did.

“We are so very proud of these 4-H students for participating and representing Franklin County extremely well,” Swann said.

“They were bragged on by many that day for their kind behavior and good sportsmanship. This was the girls’ first time to compete in this quiz bowl and for their first time they did great! They’re already looking forward to next year’s competition,” Swann added.
