Franklin County response to free pet wellness clinic ‘thrilling’ to organizers

Almost 120 Franklin County dogs and cats received  free wellness exams, vaccines, flea and tick treatment and food at an event held last week in front of Tractor Supply in the Franklin Shopping Center in Russellville.

Franklin County was one of 10 Alabama counties that were part of Monte’s 10-County Challenge, hosted by Monte’s Wellness Clinic, a Greater Huntsville Humane Society program in partnership with South Huntsville Veterinary Hospital.

During the four-hour event held on August 20th, 79 dogs and 40 cats were examined and vaccinated, and dozens of applications for no-cost spay/neuter vouchers were completed.

The 10-county program is a two week event in low income counties that are underserved with veterinary providers.

Vaccinations included Rabies, DHPP and FVRCP, and were administered by two veterinarians who volunteered their time to treat the canine and feline patients.

Event organizers were pleased by the response from Franklin County pet owners at the wellness clinic.

Local volunteers from Franklin County, as well as volunteers with Monte’s Wellness Clinic and the Greater Huntsville Humane Society helped keep the day’s events moving on schedule.
