RCS Board recognizes eight students for statewide accolades

The Russellville City Schools Board of Education took time at its April 21st meeting to recognize eight students for earning statewide recognition.

Hannah Waldrep finished in 5th place in the Nurse Assisting category at the HOSA State Leadership Conference.

Four students were recognized for being named to the All-State Chorus, including Layla Rush and Avery Willis (high school SSA Choir) and Kinsley Benford and Keylee Mayfield (Middle School Treble Choir).

And three students, Khloe Ball, Charlee Knight and Lindsay Rush, received recognition for being named to the Alabama Council on the Arts’ “All Across Alabama” program.

Agenda items for the April 21st meeting included action by the board to:

—approve facility use requests for the RMS Library, June 23-25 and July 7-9, for PD opportunities, RHS athletic facilities, auditorium and fine arts buildings on July 9 for the RHS Marching Hundred to host a rehearsal stop for the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, RHS athletic facilities, auditorium and fine arts building on July 10-11 for the RHS Marching Hundred to host a rehearsal and housing site for Drum and Bugle Corps.

—approve a Joint Purchasing Agreement with the Alabama Child Nutrition Program Cooperative for the 2026-27 school year, establishing a cooperative bidding process for CNP purchases of supplemental grocery items.

—approve the following personnel moves: Retirements/Resignations/Terminations/Leave of Absence for FMLA leave for Jennifer Cox from April 13-May 8, 2026, retirement of Angela Crittenden, RES teacher, Ken Baird, custodian and resignation of Chris Groce, WES custodian, leave without pay from May 4-22, 2026 for Emily Craft RHS teacher and employment of Katie Melson, RES teacher and Billie Jade Chapman, RES teacher, both contingent upon Alabama Teacher Certification.

The next regular meeting of the RCS Board of Education will be May 19th at 3:30pm.
