Russellville City Council promotes library employee from part-time to full-time

Following the recommendation of the Russellville Public Library Board, the Russellville City Council approved a change for library employee Sara Davis from part-time to full-time, at the council’s October 5th meeting.

The change is effective immediately.

In other agenda items at the short meeting, the council:

—approved by a 4-2 vote a resolution issuing an alcohol license for Restaurant Retail Liquor to Las Brasas Restaurant, LLC, a new restaurant at 412 Madison St. NE.

Mayor David Grissom, and Councilmen David Palmer, Darren Woodruff and Jamie Harris voted in favor of issuing the license, with Councilmen Gary Cummings and Lonnie Freeman voting against the measure.

The restaurant opened last month and is currently operating Friday through Sundays, with plans to expand its hours in the near future.

“I asked (Russellville Police Department Chief) Chris Hargett and (License Inspector) Bill Fuller if the applicant had everything in place in its application and they said it was, so I voted in favor of the resolution,” District Two Councilman Darren Woodruff said.

Prior to the vote, the council held a public hearing to receive input on the application. The vote followed the adjournment of that public hearing.

—approved a resolution recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Russellville to promote breast cancer awareness in the city. Russellville Fire Department employees will wear pink this month as a way to show support to breast cancer victims that they are not alone in their battle.

—authorized City Clerk Belinda Miller to close the city’s American Rescue Plan Act bank account, as all grant funds have been spent and nothing remains in the account.
