Belgreen junior high girls’ basketball team beats Russellville to win Tharptown Tip-off Tournament
The Belgreen junior high girls’ basketball team achieved an early-season tournament triumph on October 21, beating Russellville 48-33 to win the Tharptown Tip-off Tournament.
“I was very proud of the junior high girls for playing hard and being competitive,” BHS head coach Chad Green told the Franklin Free Press.
The Lady Bulldogs first knocked off East Lawrence 37-15 to advance to the tournament final. Kayla Canelas and Marlie Terry led Belgreen with 11 points each in the 22-point victory while Makayla Hammond finished with nine points.
In the tournament title game against Russellville, Canelas went off with a game-high 28 points; Terry contributed 19 points for the Lady Bulldogs; and Hammond scored one point on a third-quarter free throw to give Belgreen the 15-point win.
Russellville was led by Elizabeth Davis, who finished with 16 points. Callie Odom added seven points and Jonalyn Thorn had six points for the Lady Golden Tigers in the loss.
